General Character Information
Name: Kurosaki Ichigo
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Character Type/Occupation: Student/Shinigami/Vizard
Rank: Unranked, past Captain-level
Blood-type: AO (I’m sure it’s just A, seeing as a genetic table with a result of AO shows up as A blood, but that’s what each stat I’ve found says.)
Personal Information
Physical Appearance:
Ichigo is a bit taller than most of the other human characters, save for Sado Yatsutora and a few others, at 5’ 8 ½” and weighs 138 and a half lbs, tall, lean, and all muscle, though it doesn’t really show just by looking at him if he’s wearing clothes that cover most of his body, seeing as he’s not bulky at all. His most unusual feature is his bright, orange hair. Though it appears to be bleached, it’s actually his natural hair color. This makes him stand out in the Living World, and as such bullies often tried to beat him up, usually only to end up on the floor themselves. He admits that it gets him into trouble, but he also has stated that if he really cared what others thought about him, he would have dyed it black a long time ago.
Ichigo’s face is often in a mild scowl of sorts, not appearing as caring as he actually is. He has small brown eyes that are set a little far apart, but not too much. He has a slightly squared jaw that comes to a point, and his neck is slightly long, but wiry. His whole body is well-toned, and he if it wasn’t for Hanatarou’s or Inoue’s healing abilities, he would have multiple scars all over his body. In the living world, he has no real set outfit, save for his school uniform that consists of a white, button up, collared shirt that has short sleeves, as well as grey slacks and brown shoes. When in casual wear though, he’s usually wearing a t-shirt with words on it along with jeans.
While in his Shinigami form, Ichigo wears the full black uniform, reminiscent of a Shinto priest outfit in shape with the karategi-like top and hakama pants. He wears Zangetsu on his back via a strap consisting of multiple leather links that are dyed red, and the bandage-like appendage on the end of Zangetsu wrapped around the blade.
Personality:
((Keep in mind that male charries are my weakness ><…I’m mostly making this for plot’s sake.))
Ichigo often has a scowl of varying degrees on his face, having maintained an image of being somewhat detached from others, not really caring about their feelings at all. In reality though, he’s smarter and more caring than his somewhat sarcastic attitude would reveal. Perhaps from formerly feeling guilty about his mother’s death, he’s very protective of what friends he has and would go through any hardship to help them out of a life-threatening situation.
Ichigo also has a sense of honor. When he feels that he owes someone a debt, like he did to Rukia for changing his fate, he feels that he has no choice but to pay them back since not doing so would be something someone of little worth would do. He’s also not the type to make promises easily and break them, but rather he vows to do something and will put his life on the line to do it. Ichigo also has much more resolve than the average person, and his strength of mind and body match up to it.
History:
Early before the storyline, it’s revealed by some narrative from Arisawa Tatsuki that Ichigo would always cry as a child if he was hurt just a little bit or lost. However, anytime he would see his mother he would instantly stop and smile. As long as he was around her, he would always smile and would be quite the happy little boy. When he reached the age of nine, we was walking by the river one day with his mother when he thought he saw a little girl about to fall in the river. In reality, Ichigo had always been able to see spirits and ghosts since before he could remember, so he had a hard time distinguishing between ghosts and living people before his reasoning skills kicked in at a later age. He ran to go stop the ‘girl’, but his mother stopped him and fell in the river, resulting in death. Ichigo would stand by the river for days after his mother died. Until he found out that it was the Hollow Grand Fisher that killed his mother, Ichigo would always feel that he was to blame for his mother’s death.
When in Junior High, Ichigo had already gained a reputation of being a tough guy, often instilling fear in bullies who would recognize him on the spot merely by description. In one instance though, a large group using rocks, bats, and other miscellaneous weapons all ganged up on him, and Ichigo was in a pinch before out of nowhere a huge newcomer showed up. When the bullies tried to beat him up, he just stood there and took it, unaffected. Scared by his seemingly inhuman immunity to pain, the bullies ran away. This is how Ichigo met Sado ‘Chad’ Yasutora. Ichigo called him Chad because the way his name was written on his nametag could be read as Chad or Sado and continued to call him so even after being corrected.
Some time later, but while they were still in Junior High, two bullies of a gang snuck up behind Chad while he was walking and hit him upside the head with a rock, knocking him out. When Chad came to, he was under the bridge by the river, tied to a chair with metal cable. Right as the head bully was about to destroy the necklace that Chad’s Abuelo had given to him, Ichigo came to the rescue with a flying kick, retrieving the necklace. Though beat up afterwards, Ichigo grinned as he returned it, and from there on out the two had an agreement that if there was anything that the other was willing to fight for or risk their life for, the other would do the same.
As the storyline begins, we find Ichigo beating up some punks who broke a memorial flower vase on a street corner. After properly reprimanding them, Ichigo promises the girl ghost that was there that he’d get her a new flower. However, through his contact with the ghost, his reiatsu begin to flare, alerting Hollows to his presence. As Ichigo is walking through a more metropolitan part of Karakura Town, he runs into the ghost again, this time running from a monster that he’s never seen before that no one else can see. Just when the Hollow is about to catch up to them, a mysterious figure in black comes out of nowhere and promptly destroys it before leaving without giving any sort of identification.
Later that day, Ichigo is in his room when he is surprised by a black butterfly, even more so when the mysterious figure from before suddenly comes in his room from the wall. As she says ‘It’s near.’ Ichigo catches her off guard and kicks her, sending her to the floor shocked. Surprised that Ichigo was able to see her, the figure promptly subdues him before explaining that she’s a Shinigami from Soul Society, sent to destroy Hollows and bury souls to send them to Soul Society, the latter which she does to a ghost that had been following Ichigo around. After Ichigo saying that there’s no way that he’ll believe it, along with some comical interaction, as well as an injured Yuzu stumbling in Ichigo’s room pleading that he help Karin, the Shinigami finally senses the Hollow she had been tracing, coming to the conclusion that Ichigo’s reiatsu had been interfering with her senses. While attempting to destroy the Hollow, the Shinigami makes the mistake of telling Ichigo that he was the one that the Hollow was after, resulting in him pulling a supernatural feat in breaking through the bakuda spell and attempting to take on the Hollow himself. In order to save Ichigo’s life, the Shinigami uses her own body as a shield, becoming too heavily injured in the process to continue fighting. As such, in order to defeat the Hollow, the Shinigami introduces herself as Kuchiki Rukia before intending to transfer half of her Shinigami powers to Ichigo, who actually sucks out all of it before swiftly defeating the Hollow.
Following this, Rukia disappears before suddenly showing up at Ichigo’s school, acting like a sweet and polite girl. Surprised that everyone else can see her, it’s revealed that Rukia is forced to recover in a gigai, or faux body, and that she expects Ichigo to take up her Shinigami duties in her stead. Though he adamantly refuses at first and says he’s not good enough of a guy to protect people he doesn’t even know, he eventually does it. However, he can only turn into a Shinigami if Rukia knocks him out of his body using a special red glove with a flaming skull on it. Later on, they pick up a Mod Soul named Kon that removes this dependency, as well as making it appear that Ichigo is in his body when he’s not. After slaying Hollows, having some comical interactions with Don Kanoji, and taking part in a Hollow slaying competition with a Quincy named Ishida Uryuu that results in Inoue’s and Chad’s latent abilities to awaken, Soul Society picks up on Ichigo’s Shinigami powers after he injures a Gillian enough for it to be forced to retreat to Hueco Mundo.
Not too long after this event, Rukia realizes that she’s become too comfortable in the Living World and runs away, only to be intercepted by Kuchiki Byakuya and Abarai Renji. Renji almost kills Rukia and Ishida, who had come to her aid while adamantly insisting that he had only been out for a walk, when Ichigo comes to the rescue. He begins to seriously lose to Renji when he suddenly begins to blast out reiatsu, beginning to overwhelm Renji before his zanpakuto is suddenly missing a large portion. Surprised that Byakuya was able to move fast enough to do the damage without him noticing, Ichigo is caught even more off guard when Byakuya knocks out his Soul Link and Soul Sleep, the source of reiatsu, leaving Ichigo to die while the duo take Rukia away who, with teary eyes, exclaims that if Ichigo comes after her she won’t forgive him, and that he should lay there and live as long as he will. Ichigo only able to look on hopelessly as Renji opens a door to Soul Society and the three Shinigami disappear. Ichigo then passes out, knowing that Rukia committed a crime in giving him her powers and as a consequence will face execution.
When Ichigo comes to, he’s shocked to realize that he’s not dead. When Urahara Kisuke informs Ichigo that if he wants to save Rukia, he’ll have to regain his Shinigami powers. After a trying, first two ‘lessons’ as Urahara calls them, Ichigo begins to turn into a Hollow while in soul form, seeing as he was left as a normal human soul, when at the last moment he’s able to regain his Shinigami powers. Ichigo then fights with Urahara for five nights and days in preparation for his journey to Soul Society. Upon completion, he’s surprised to see that he will be accompanied by Chad, Inoue, Ishida, and a talking cat named Yoruichi. The group makes it to Soul Society with some bumps along the way, and as soon as Ichigo sees Seireitei, he carelessly runs toward it, causing the walls guarding it to fall down. Jidanbou, the giant gatekeeper, attempts to defeat Ichigo, but it’s in vain seeing as Ichigo easily breaks his weapons. Jidanbou then tries to do the honorable thing and let them through, but Ichimaru Gin-taichou blocks the way, injuring Jidanbou, causing the gate to shut.
After some minor actions and discussions, Yoruichi decides that their best next move is to find Shiba Ikkaku, a fireworks maker. After some searching, the group finds the migrating house and enter. Ichigo is then surprised to see that an ugly man, Ganju, that he had gotten into a fight earlier while in Rukongai is a member of the family. After Ichigo is the only one with extreme difficultly in learning how to manipulate his spirit power into a canon ball using Ikkaku’s special item. The group is then launched out of a giant canon, accompanied by Ganju. After they break through the protective field surrounding Seireitei, they’re spilt up and Ichigo is left with Ganju, who breaks their fall with a pit of sand.
Immediately the two meet up with Madarame Ikkaku and Yumichika of the 11th squad, both ranked officers. While Ganju runs away and is followed by Yumichika, Ichigo faces off against Ikkaku and defeats him even while Ikkaku uses the released form of his zanpakuto, though he does sustain some injuries. Ichigo then goes on to his fight with Abarai Renji, meanwhile joining up with Ganju and Hanatarou of the 4th squad before he does so. Though Renji has the upper hand at first, Ichigo strengthens his resolve and fires off his yet-unnamed attack, incapacitating Renji, who then begs for Ichigo to save Rukia because he’s unable to do so himself.
Before continuing on, Ichigo & Co. head below the surface, where Hanatarou heals Ichigo and Ganju’s wounds despite becoming delirious by the end. It’s then revealed that the Hollow mask that showed up while Ichigo was regaining his own Shinigami powers from Urahara’s training regimen has resurfaced and had likely saved Ichigo from a fatal strike. Though Ichigo wanted to keep it as a sort of good luck charm, Hanatarou throws it into the sewage.
The group then return to the surface and begin to approach the Shrine of Penitence where Rukia is being held prisoner. On the way though, the group is suddenly overwhelmed by a monstrous reiatsu, which is revealed to belong to Zaraki Kenpachi, Ikkaku’s captain. Ichigo then tells Ganju and Hanatarou to go on, entrusting Rukia’s retrieval to them while he takes on Kenpachi. Though feeling as if Kenpachi is mocking him when he offers a free shot, Ichigo becomes scared when Zangetsu is unable to cut through Kenpachi’s skin and begins to run away. His fear only increases when he feels Chad’s reiatsu fade and believes that he’s died, but after concentrating, he’s able to feel it again. Ichigo then remembers what Zangetsu told him about looking forward without fear and faces Kenpachi once again and is eventually able to cut him. Despite this though, Kenpachi breaks Zangetsu with his own sword and deals Ichigo a lethal blow, incapacitating him. Ichigo then forms enough resolve to reform Zangetsu and the real fight starts, resulting in a clash that can even be felt through the lethality stone that Rukia is being held in. The two come to an impasse, both collapsing, though Kenpachi claims that Ichigo won before his sword breaks and he eventually passes out after Yachiru, his Vice-Captain, takes him away after asking Ichigo not to die so that they can ‘play’ again. After this, Yoruichi finds Ichigo and carries him to a secret place to heal him up.
When Ichigo comes to, he’s surprised that a cat was able to carry him all that distance. Yoruichi then casually says that such a task is nothing in his true form, shocking Ichigo that Yoruichi is not really a black tomcat. Yoruichi then shows his true form to Ichigo, revealing that he is really a she who doesn’t have any clothes on. This highly embarrasses Ichigo, which highly amuses Yoruichi since he doesn’t look as innocent as he really is. After Ichigo demands that Yoruichi put some clothes on, which she does to her own annoyance, Yoruichi shows Ichigo the object that she used to get them there. Ichigo then commandeers the flying device and goes back to the Shrine of Penitence to rescue Rukia. However, just as Kuchiki Byakuya is about to release his zanpakuto, it’s wrapped in a cloth by Yoruichi, affectively saving Ichigo’s life. She then knocks him unconscious by pounding a powerful medicine directly into his abdomen, knocking him out, before easily escaping from Byakuya.
When Ichigo comes to, he’s enraged that Yoruichi took him away from the Shrine, but Yoruichi is eventually able to reason with him, saying that those that were left behind will be fine thanks to Ukitake-taichou, and that Ichigo doesn’t stand a chance against Byakuya with his current abilities. Yoruichi then tells Ichigo that if he undergoes the Bankai training method that she has prepared for him, which was originally invented by Urahara Kisuke, he can become from five to ten times as strong as he currently is in three days. Ichigo agrees and begins the training.
